Breakfast Seminar with Mr. Jae Woo LEE, CEO, Vogo Fund Asset Management
"Growing PEF Role in Korean M&A Market & Outbound Alternative Investment"

Dear Members:

I am pleased to inform you that the Forum will be holding a breakfast seminar on February 6, featuring Mr. Jae Woo Lee, Co-Founder and CEO of Vogo Fund Asset Management as our speaker. Mr. Lee will make a presentation on the "Growing PEF (Private Equity Fund) Role in the Korean M&A Market and Outbound Alternative Investment." Details of the seminar are as follows:

Time and Date: 7:00~9:00 am, Tuesday, February 6, 2018
* Please note that our February seminar will not be held on the second Tuesday due to the Lunar New Year holidays beginning on February 15
Venue: Lilac & Tulip Room, 2nd Floor, Westin Chosun Hotel
Topic: Growing PEF (Private Equity Fund) Role in Korean M&A Market & Outbound Alternative Investment
Note: Mr. Lee will speak in English.

Since its legal framework was introduced in 2004, the local PEF industry has shown tremendous growth reaching 65 trillion Won in market size as of 2017. PEFs now play a key role in all Korea M&A deals from mega size transactions as big as 7 trillion Won to smaller venture capital deals. While the general perception toward PEFs is still a bit negative, PEF players are now claiming they are, if anything “value creators” and even “job creators”. Where does this gap in perception come from? Korean institutional investors such as the NPS (National Pension Service) or the KIC (Korea Investment Corporation) are rapidly building out their overseas alternative investment portfolios. Why are they moving in that direction? Is it the right path? Can this be a viable investment option for the rest of us too? We can hear about these interesting subjects and more from Mr. Lee who is widely recognized as one of the first, perhaps even the very first PEF professional in Korea since 1997.

Prior to co-founding Vogo in 2005, Mr. Lee was country CEO at Lehman Brothers Korea, where he built up a significant investment banking and capital market platform. Since starting his finance career at Citibank, he has spent the last 35 years across various fields of finance including Foreign Exchange, Derivatives, Corporate Finance and Private Equity in Hong Kong and Seoul. With Vogo’s new SPPF (Specialized Private Placement Fund) license, his new focus is the foreign alternative investment business that caters to the rapidly growing outbound investment needs of Korean institutional investors. Mr. Lee has chaired the Korea Private Equity Association for eight years and advised the Korean government as a member of the Finance Market Development Committee. Mr. Lee graduated from Sungkyunkwan University with a BA in Business Administration and received his MBA degree from George Washington University in the US.

Given the outstanding credentials of our speaker and the fascinating topic, I strongly encourage all SFF members to please set aside the time to attend as we look forward to a very informative and lively seminar.

Your RSVP would be greatly appreciated as always.

Sincerely yours,

Sang-Woo Kim
