I am pleased to inform you that the Forum will be holding a breakfast seminar on February 14, featuring Dr. Shin Sunghwan, President of the Korea Institute of Finance as our speaker. Dr. Shin will speak on the topic of "Economic Outlook and Risk Factors in 2017." He is expected to provide a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the Korean economy and financial sector, while highlighting key risk factors that must be addressed in order to break through difficulties confronting the industry today. Details of the seminar are as follows:

Dr. Shin, President of the Korea Institute of Finance (KIF), a leading think tank in Korea focused on financial policies, has served in this position since March 2015, marking a return to the KIF since his departure in 1995 as a research fellow. Prior to his return, he conducted research and taught at Hongik University and the Korea Fixed Income Research Institute in the areas of asset pricing, asset allocation, pension reform, pension management, public-private partnerships (PPP), risk management, currency management, capital markets, etc. From August 1998 to March 2001, Dr. Shin was a senior financial officer at the World Bank, responsible for managing the IBRD’s capital and overall financial capacity, and providing advisory services on its pension management. He was also in charge of risk management for the IFC’s liquid assets and loan portfolios, while also managing the overall financial capacity of the IFC. In addition, Dr. Shin has been an active participant across a number of professional associations, committees, boards, and commissions. In 2013, he served as President of the Korea Pension Academic Association, and chaired the public fund evaluation board organized by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance in 2014. Dr. Shin also served on committees coordinated by the Financial Services Commission, the Financial Supervisory Services, and the NPS; was a member of the KIC steering committee, and a non-executive board member of the KB Financial Group, Woori Bank, and KOGAS. Dr. Shin has also served on the MIT Center for Finance and Policy Advisory Board since 2015. In terms of his academic career, Dr. Shin received a BA in economics from Seoul National University in 1985 and a Ph.D. in finance from the Sloan School of Management at MIT in 1993.
